Achievement through Practice
PHASE I: STRUCTURAL BASE The 108 Traditional Long Form (一零八式太極拳) ensures the development of a perfectly upright and centered spine, lowered tailbone, and systematic removal of muscular tension. This training directly aligns the body with the classical principle: rooted in the feet, developed in the legs, controlled by the waist, and manifested in the fingers.
PHASE II: REFINE INTENT Moving from the inside out using intent introduces the transition from external structural choreography to internal movement directed entirely by intent (意 — Yì). All movement becomes directed by the mind without the use of physical force.
PHASE III: TACTILE BASE Stationary Push Hands (定步推手 Dìngbù Tuīshǒu) and Knife/Broadsword (刀 Dāo) training to develop the introductory listening skills of the system. Cultivating tactile sensitivity, neutralizing mechanical pressure, and understanding the core physics of redirection using classical single-edged broadsword vectors.
PHASE IV: MOBILE FLUIDITY Moving Push Hands (活步推手 Huóbù Tuīshǒu) and the elegant Sword (劍 Jiàn) to maintain central equilibrium and continuous grounding while in motion and develop agile footwork, paired with the refined geometry of the classical straight sword.
PHASE V: EXTENDED PRINCIPLES Spear (鎗 Qiāng) and two-person choreographed sets extend the structural awareness and internal mechanics beyond individual solo practice. The spear cultivates sensitivity extension to long range. Close-quarters forms further embellish timing, distance, and positioning through structured two-person partnerships.
PHASE VI: SPONTANEOUS FLUENCY Free Sparring (散手 Sǎnshǒu) and Discharge (發勁 Fājìn) applications cultivate an ongoing, lifelong journey of effortless responsiveness and reflection. Completely integrating the structural, tactile, and moving foundations into an unscripted environment develops the fluid ability to yield instantly to any incoming force and discharge internal power (Fājìn) flawlessly.
